Why riding out is an important part of training

In classical riding training, the focus is often on work in the riding arena – on precise lessons, correct seat and gymnastic work or lunging. However, one important aspect is often underestimated: riding out. Riding out into the countryside offers numerous advantages that not only contribute to the horse’s mental balance, but also complement its physical training.

1. Mental variety and stress relief

Horses are flight animals and very sensitive. Constantly spending time in the indoor arena or on the arena can quickly lead to boredom and mental stress. Rides out into nature bring variety into everyday life, promote inner peace and strengthen the trust between rider and horse. Young horses in particular learn to deal with new stimuli – an invaluable training effect.

2. Natural gymnastic training

Riding uphill and downhill, uneven ground, different speeds – all of this provides natural gymnastics that strengthens the horse in a holistic way. The back muscles are activated, sure-footedness is improved and balance is trained. No square meter of riding arena can offer this in as many ways as a varied cross-country ride.

That’s why regular trail riding with our horses is part of our weekly training program.
